WHAT WE DID
B&D Industries was the sole electrical and controls contractor for the installation of all Medium Frequency Drives (MFD) at URENCO USA. These drives operate at highly proprietary frequencies and electrical currents. Their primary function was to energize the centrifuges which operate in cascades to process uranium hexafluoride and enrich uranium to fuel grade levels. The MFD architecture and operating software are the products of Imtech Vonk (Netherlands). B&D was subcontracted to Imtech Vonk to perform the electrical and controls installations site wide. Employees working in these areas must qualify for higher NRC access credentials. To date, we have completed these installations for Assay Units 1 and 2 as well as the centrifuges located in the Separations Building Module Extensions.
