If you’ve flown in or out of town lately, you’re used to dodging the dust and construction crews working on the terminal improvement project at Albuquerque International Sunport. If you thought it was taking a long time to finish this major renovation, you’re not alone – airport officials have been as frustrated as you by the delays. “Our hopes and dreams were that it was going to be done by Balloon Fiesta 2018,” said Stephanie Kitts, Sunport spokesperson, who added, “We ran into some issues with our electrical contractor and ended up having to switch to a different company, which is what’s caused the majority of the delay.”
Kitts is happy things are now moving along at a much faster pace, thanks to the different company that was brought in to finish the project – B&D Industries, Inc. In fact, with B&D now at the helm, she expects the $30 million project will finally be wrapped by June or July. B&D, which was established in 1955, couldn’t be prouder of its contributions to revamping such a key component of the Duke City’s infrastructure.
This is a major project, which includes the demolition and replacement of existing systems and infrastructure in the ceilings, escalator lobby, baggage area, and passenger pick-up. “It is never an easy task to complete a project after the original contractor steps away. For many traveling through the Sunport, this couldn’t be more visible. We also realize the Sunport is the main hub of travel for many, and we have skilled crews working night and day to dampen strains of construction and reduce the impact felt by travelers,” according to Andy Rivera, B&D Project Manager. “As a premier electrical contractor in New Mexico, B&D is proud to step-in and bring the Sunport Terminal Improvement Project to a safe, fast, and successful finish,” Rivera added.
The story of B&D stepping in to save the day at Albuquerque International Sunport is emblematic of our 60-plus year commitment to the people of New Mexico. As one of the state’s leading electrical contractors, B&D is part of the DNA of the Land of Enchantment and are one of the state’s largest employers of electrical tradesmen.
