The Benefits of Infrared Scanning Through Preventative Maintenance
B&D Industries has been an integral part of the Albuquerque community for more than 65 years. And after working in the industry for so long, we’ve learned that a huge part of maintaining a home, and ensuring its systems are running smoothly, is performing regular visual and physical checks. Like looking for a drafty door or changing your air filter. But, what if there’s an issue with your systems behind closed walls, or that just isn’t visible to the naked human eye?
Here’s a look at how thermal imagers, or Infrared Thermography devices, can help you see what’s going on beyond the surface and keep your home in tiptop shape.
What is an Infrared Electrical Inspection?
Because residential systems and their inner workings aren’t always easily accessible, applying thermal imaging inspection practices can be critical to home maintenance. In fact, you can do so wherever there’s an area that you need to see through walls at pipes, electrical, and mechanical systems. And because increased heat can be a sign of failure, infrared scanning technology is the perfect preventative maintenance tool to help spot it all. This could save you time, money, and spare you from headaches in the long run.
Contrary to popular belief, and especially as their technology improves, infrared scanning technology can be used to spot far more than just heat. According to Testo-Direct, along with finding hotspots, Infrared Thermography can spot thermal patterns and identify a number of internal problems. This includes discovering leaking pipes, locating mold formations, seeing mechanical failures, detecting weakened electrical, and pinpointing any faulty distribution of airflow.
So, how exactly does the technology work? Thermal imaging cameras are able to turn radiation, or heat, into visible light wavelengths of various colors. And what was once unable to be detected by the human eye is now a thermal map we can read! The higher the surface temperature of an object, the more infrared radiation emanates. This is useful because even the slightest, smallest changes in temperature sensitivities can identify worn down, overheating, and failing components that may have otherwise gone undetected.
In terms of locating moisture, thermal imagers are able to use the externally determined ambient temperature, humidity, and measured surface temperature to calculate the relative surface moisture. This means leaks, and in turn mold formations, can be spotted before it’s too far gone. And by assessing the heat transfer from the surface temperature, infrared scanning technology can help track air circulation and determine air leakage and temperature distribution issues throughout your home.
How Infrared Scanning Can Help
Through preventative maintenance, which includes Infrared Thermography scans performed by our team, you could avoid a ton of issues from arising in your space, and avoid even greater damages like flooding, fires, and more from occurring. In the end, this can save you money, keep your home comfortable, and most importantly: keep your family safe from lurking, hidden safety hazards.
